Chris Neilson Memorial Cup
A special feature of the Duggan Soccer Tournament is the presentation of the prestigious fair play award, the Chris Neilson Memorial Cup.
This trophy is named in honour of an outstanding and much loved Duggan youth, who passed away on April 25, 2002. Chris participated and excelled in a wide range of community activities in Duggan, including soccer (playing and refereeing), basketball, and Beavers/Cubs/Scouts Canada. He was an active member of Southminister-Steinhauer United Church and a keen participant in numerous school and extracurricular activities at Greenfield and Avalon schools. He was a flautist with the Avalon School Concert Band and a player on the Avalon Senior Boys’ Basketball team. In his spare time, Chris was an energetic outdoorsman, and an avid reader and music listener. Well known for his infectious smile and friendly demeanor, Chris was loved and respected in every corner of the Duggan community. His memory will be cherished by all whose lives he touched.
The Chris Neilson Memorial Cup is awarded to the U-16 boys team which best exhibits the traits which Chris exemplified in his own community sports career: a strong competitive drive and determination to succeed, balanced by an equally strong commitment to the ideals of sportsmanship and fair play.
